I have a theory that most of times people are unable to imagine a fashion of the future; what they do is remix the fashion of past/present until it stops making any practical sense. These are wonderous as Vance-like wizard fashion, though.
a) The lady duelist from 1922 should be my next player character. The lady safari-ist from 1950 is her arch-rival!
b) They were really certain that skirts for me were going to become "a thing" weren't they? Well, maybe by 2089.
c) I genuinely like the cyclical nature of the fashions here. It's clearly not just "whatever we feel like", they're clearly imagining trends that rise and fall away.
I feel like you see it especially on the line with the three men 1960, 1965, 1965. First robes are in, hats are small, shoes are flat. Then you get harem pants, wide hats, and simple shoes. Then skinny jeans, a new small hat but with a different brim, and curling shoes.
I'm genuinely impressed by that attention to detail.
I think one of the main takeaways from this is: if your wizard staff isn't also an inconspicuous cane/umbrella/sword, then what the heck are you doing?!

ReplyDeleteTo be fair, a lot of that would not have looked out of place on a fashion runway in the 80's or 90's.
